About the SustainergyNet Project

Duration: 08-2008 to 07-2010

The SustainergyNet-Project is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA), that has been supported from August 2008 to July 2010 by the European Union's 7th Framework Programme - Programme Environment. SustainergyNet focuses on integrating civil, scientific and stakeholder knowledge in order to support and promote sustainable energy policy in Africa. In line with the EU's commitments to strengthen civil participation and to foster a global approach to the issue of sustainable development, SustainergyNet aims to promote and encourage the engagement of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Africa in research, policy and implementation processes on sustainable and efficient energy management.

The project SustainergyNet has been implemented by a team of experts from European and African universities, research institutes and non-profit organisations, coordinated by IDC. SustainergyNet has investigated best practices and obstacles for the involvement of civil society in research, policy and implementation processes on sustainable and efficient energy management. As one of the major final outcomes, the SustainergyWeb Platform has been set up with a view to facilitate the exchange, interaction and cooperation between different stakeholders active in the field of sustainable energy and development.
